I am a huge fan of your book, ...Dear Ms. Polikoff:

I am a huge fan of your book, of your website and of your ideas. I discussed your ideas in my class Sexual Orientation and the Law at the University of Idaho College of Law, which was taught by Ms. Liz Brandt (who had fantastic things to say about you).

Anyway, I am attaching the wording on Referendum 74 (WA), the ballot measure which, if passed, will officially allow Gay Marriage in the state of Washington (converting current domestic partnerships into marriages and restricting them to seniors only). Considering your opinions in your book and your post, I take it that you would support R74, although it does tend to prioritize marriage over other types of family relationship. That is because the alternative is to have nothing at all. Do I understand you correctly?

The ballot title reads as follows:[4]
The legislature passed Engrossed Substitute Senate Bill 6239 concerning marriage for same-sex couples, modified domestic-partnership law, and religious freedom, and voters have filed a sufficient referendum petition on this bill.

This bill would allow same-sex couples to marry, preserve domestic partnerships only for seniors, and preserve the right of clergy or religious organizations to refuse to perform, recognize, or accommodate any marriage ceremony.

Should this bill be:

Approved [ ]

Rejected [ ]
The ballot measure is accompanied by the following summary:
This bill allows same-sex couples to marry, applies marriage laws without regard to gender, and specifies that laws using gender-specific terms like husband and wife include same-sex spouses. After 2014, existing domestic partnerships are converted to marriages, except for seniors. It preserves the right of clergy or religious organizations to refuse to perform or recognize any marriage or accommodate wedding ceremonies. The bill does not affect licensing of religious organizations providing adoption, foster-care, or child-placement.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07941478876785845578noreply@blogger.com
